Inquiry from HMRC for provision of financial information.
Our client – a high-net worth individual, UK resident but Russian domicile, - contacted us in relation to a HMRC inquiry asking him to detail his foreign income. The client had recently purchased a home in London using overseas assets and had invested profits from his foreign companies in the growth of his new UK business.

The client had received a tax memorandum from his current advisor that he was not satisfied with and did not understand. He approached us with a request for a second opinion. Utilising our expert panel and regional knowledge, we were able to demonstrate that the memorandum did not properly characterise the nature of his business projects overseas or his equity position in those businesses.

We were then able to provide a report supporting the client in negotiations with HMRC, and to identify important tax reliefs that were available due to the UK investment constituting business property.
“Any taxpayer can face complex tax issues at both corporate and personal levels, ending up on the radar of tax authorities, which could be a very stressful experience.”
